Water Treatment

Wherever water is stored or collected for any period of time such as in hot tubs, swimming pools and storage tanks there is the risk of bacteria accumulating including legionella, the demon of any water supply system, e.coli and other pathogens. Typically chlorine would be used as a basic treatment for these pathogens, however chlorine is considered hazardous, is environmentally unpleasant and can cause allergic reactions and respiratory complaints such as asthma.

A more effective way of killing these bugs is through the introduction of silver and/or copper ions. Metal ions are the most effective anti-microbials around and have the additional benefit of preventing the formation of biofilm. Only Giltech’s Corglaes® technology can guarantee the delivery of these metal ions in a controlled manner. CorGlaes® presents an anti-microbial and anti-fungal delivery systems that can be introduced into the filtration system of swimming pools and hot tubs to support the disinfection of these systems. Corglaes® has the potential to replace or reduce the requirement for chlorine and other hazardous chemicals and can provide an environmentally friendly and more effective approach for swimming pool and hot tub maintenance.

The use of Corglaes® for water treatment stretches far beyond this limited area, into fountains, deluge systems, cooling systems, water storage etc. Giltech is currently conducting trials and is in discussion with potential partners who are interested in commercialising a range of water treatment applications.
