SilverLine™ is a device clinically proven to reduce Indwelling Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) by up to 53%

The problem: Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) is the 4th largest cause of death in the Western World, and is globally the most common. In the Western World around 40% of HAIs are Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) most of which follow on from urinary catheterisation.

How can SilverLine™ help:

Bacterial resistance to antibiotic treatments has led to medical staff seeking prophylactic devices to assist them in their fight against infection.

During acute (short-term) indwelling catheterisation, the most common source for bacterial contamination is via the extra-luminal route between the urethra and the catheter. However, the most serious UTI threat comes from the retrograde growth of high concentrations of bacteria which multiply on the surfaces of the urine collection system forming impenetrable biofilms.

Biofilms contain significant numbers of bacteria which are capable of contaminating a typical drainage system in less than three days. This contamination can rapidly lead to bacteriuria, symptomatic infection, bacteraemia and septicaemia. Therefore it is essential to prevent bacteria tracking back into the bladder.

SilverLine™ contains a small ingot of CorGlaes® Ag, a powerful silver ion releasing antimicrobial agent. When in place between the catheter and urine correction system, the SilverLine™ cartridge releases a constant supply of silver ions. SilverLine™ releases sufficient silver ions at a fast enough rate to deal with planktonic organisms in the urine. Sufficient silver ions also adhere to all of the distal internal surfaces of the drainage system (the catheter connector, drainage tube, anti-reflux valve, bag and spigot), creating a silver lining which prevents biofilm formation.
