Giltech, a world leader in the field of controlled delivery and biodegradable technologies, is pleased to announce a collaboration with Ozsumer Medical Supplies to distribute Giltech’s SilverLine cartridge device in Turkey.

SilverLine is a universal cartridge device designed to easily fit into any urinary catheter drainage assembly between the catheter and drainage bag where it provides antimicrobial protection and significantly reduces the risk of catheter associated urinary tract infection (UTI). The SilverLine cartridges incorporate Giltech’s Corglaes®Ag controlled release glass technology which dissolves in the presence of urine and constantly releases antimicrobial silver ions for a 7-10 day period onto the internal surfaces of the catheter drainage bag assembly.

Experimental evidence has demonstrated that bacterial biofilm formation can occur on the internal surfaces of drainage systems which can lead to the development of UTI. The continuous supply of silver ions from SilverLine prevents biofilm formation thereby significantly reducing the risk of retrograde infection from contaminated urine in the downstream drainage assembly.

Clinical studies have demonstrated a 53% reduction in catheter associated UTI using SilverLine when compared to a placebo control. The routine use of the device as a prophylactic measure has the potential to improve the care of short-term catheterised patients and reduce hospital costs.
