corglaes-cu

Like silver, copper has been used throughout the ages as a sterilising and healing agent and is now known to inhibit the growth of harmful pathogens - bacteria, moulds, algae, fungi and viruses. In addition, copper is an essential trace element in the human body and can be used to treat fungal infections, reduce inflammation caused by arthritis and reduce body odour.

Recent research has demonstrated copper’s antimicrobial effect on a wide range of harmful organisms including MRSA, C. Difficile, E.Coli, Listeria and Influenza – some of the most harmful and virulent Healthcare Acquired Infections.

CorGlaes® is a sodium calcium phosphate glass that dissolves completely and harmlessly in any aqueous solution. When an active metal such as copper is included in its manufacture to create CorGlaes® Cu it becomes part of the molecular structure of the glass and is held there until the CorGlaes® is exposed to an aqueous solution. The metal ions are then released at the required concentration through precise control of the dissolution rate of the glass, and therefore of the release rate of the metal ions.

CorGlaes® can be formulated to deliver metal ions over periods ranging from seconds to years. CorGlaes® Cu is part of the CorGlaes® Active range – a powerful antimicrobial, antifungal and antiviral agent. It can be produced in a variety of physical forms and can be accurately incorporated into customer products using a custom formulation.
