Giltech Limited was founded by Dr Tom Gilchrist in 1984 to develop and manufacture novel biomaterials for the medical device and woundcare markets. It has achieved notable success in this area and some of Giltech’s controlled delivery and biodegradable technologies have pioneered new paths in medical wound healing and infection control throughout the world.

Giltech’s most prominent success story is Sorbsan® a novel wound dressing whose active constituent is calcium alginate. It achieved a global brand identity as a preferred hospital wound care product and is still marketed worldwide.

From its initial focus on ground-breaking biomaterials, Giltech has built on its many years of research and development experience to create a unique portfolio of innovative core biodegradable and controlled release technologies. These flexible platform technologies are based on proprietary and novel water soluble glasses, polysaccharides and organic biodegradable polymers. Throughout its life, Giltech has sought to protect its intellectual property through the use of patents and licences.

Over the past two years, the Company has diversified its marketing efforts into new markets, where controlled release technologies have equal relevance and potential. The Company is now working with potential partners across each of these areas and is actively seeking new development opportunities.
